Our veterans have sacrificed everything in service to our country. The VA disability claims process should honor that sacrifice, but too often it doesn't. Initial denials are extremely common, rating decisions frequently undervalue service-connected conditions, and the appeals process can feel impossibly complex and frustrating to navigate alone.

VA disability claim documents attorney VP Law

At VP Law, we are proud to stand beside the veterans of South Florida who served our nation. Attorney Vanessa N. Perez helps veterans throughout Broward and Miami-Dade County with VA disability claims and appeals. She cuts through the red tape and fights for the benefits they earned through their service and sacrifice.

A Denial Is Not the End of Your Claim

The VA denies a large share of initial claims, but a denial is not final. Veterans have multiple appeal options, including Supplemental Claims, Higher-Level Reviews, and appeals to the Board of Veterans' Appeals. Each path has specific strategies and documentation requirements. VP Law helps you choose and execute the right approach.

Understanding VA Disability Ratings

The VA assigns a disability rating between 0% and 100% (in 10% increments) to each service-connected condition. This rating determines your monthly tax-free compensation amount. When you have multiple conditions, the VA uses a "combined ratings" formula that can be confusing, and it often results in ratings lower than veterans expect or deserve.

10% to 20% RatingMonthly compensation of roughly $165 to $327. Many conditions are first rated at the lowest possible percentage.
30% to 60% RatingMonthly compensation of roughly $508 to $1,395, sometimes with extra allowances for dependents.
70% to 90% RatingMonthly compensation of roughly $1,663 to $2,241, with eligibility for TDIU if you meet the unemployability rules.
100% RatingMaximum monthly compensation of approximately $3,737+, with additional benefits including healthcare, dental, and commissary access.
